Artemis Mandala description by mother Julie

I first chose Artemis’ hunting symbols for her Mandala. The bows and arrows. The stag. I finished the edges with moons, as she is also considered one of the Moon goddesses.

After reading more of her myths, I determined she needed more diversity and depth.  I added the symbol of a full term fetus in an egg, representing midwifery, but added stalks of the Rue plant which is a symbol of virginity, since Artemis is the eternal virgin.

The dancer pose is always a little playful to me. It is representative of youthfulness and agility.  I admire her tenacity to go after what she wants and set boundaries to keep what she holds dear.
